This recipe was originally posted on a blog I stopped posting to years ago. I love this picture, and I’ve made this recipe many times over the years.
Preheat oven to 375
Dry Ingredients:
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
1 large egg
3/4 cup buttermilk (can use milk + 1tsp vinegar)
2 Tablespoons orange zest (finely grated orange peel)
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup cold butter
Instructions:
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
Mix egg, buttermilk, and orange zest in a separate bowl.
Cut butter into dry ingredients; add the rest of the ingredients and gently fold.
On a lightly floured area roll dough out to 1/2-3/4 inch high and cut into desired shapes or sizes.
*I like to bake on parchment paper or a silpat because it guarantees that things won’t stick, but you could bake these on a non-greased pan.
Bake for 20 minutes. Because they are chocolate you won’t be able to tell when they’ve “browned” so stick with the 18-20 min time.
Yield: 15-18 scones
